White Sangria

White sangria is a refreshing and customizable beverage made with white wine, fresh fruits, and optional sweeteners or alcohol. It's perfect for any occasion and can be made ahead for a delightful and festive drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium lime thinly sliced into rounds
  • 1 medium lemon thinly sliced into rounds
  • 1/4 cup organic cane sugar or substitute with agave, powdered coconut sugar, maple syrup, or stevia to taste; omit for drier sangria
  • 1/4 cup apple brandy Laird’s Apple Jack brand preferred; or substitute with regular brandy, though apple brandy has a subtler apple flavor and smoother finish
  • 1/2 medium organic green apple cored and chopped into small pieces
  • 1 medium ripe peach or nectarine thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 750- ml bottle dry crisp white wine (chilled; I recommend white table wine from Spain or Portugal, such as Alianca brand, though Sauvignon Blanc offers nice complexity, and Pinot Grigio works well too)
For Serving
  • Ice or frozen berries
  • Sparkling water optional
  • Fresh mint optional

Method

  1. Add lime, lemon, and sugar (or your chosen sweetener) to a large pitcher (or multiple pitchers if preparing a larger batch) and muddle using a muddler or gently crush with a wooden spoon for 45 seconds.
  2. Add apple brandy and muddle again for about 30 seconds to combine. Then, add apple, nectarine, and strawberries, stirring to incorporate. Add the wine and stir again.
  3. Taste and adjust the flavor as needed, adding more sweetener for sweetness, extra lime or lemon juice for acidity, or additional fruit. Stir to combine.
  4. Add ice or frozen berries and stir again to chill. Serve immediately, optionally garnished with mint. For a lighter version, top off each glass with a bit of sparkling water (optional).
  5. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours, though it's best enjoyed within the first 1-2 days.
